Assistant / Associate Professor: Music Education (General/Choral)

The School of Music and Dance is seeking two full-time, tenure track faculty members. One track will be at the assistant professor rank and the other will be at the associate professor rank. Both positions will be in Music Education. One track will specialize in Instrumental Music Education and the other track will specialize in General/Choral Music Education. This announcement is for the General/Choral specialization. Only one track will be appointed to the associate professor level with additional responsibilities as Coordinator of Music Education.



A terminal degree in Music or Music Education is required. The successful candidate will possess teaching and research abilities at the highest level as well as comprehensive and current knowledge of music education pedagogy. Emphasis in general music methods and approaches (K-8), choral music leadership (K-12), and background in music and integrated arts curriculum for classroom teachers is required. A successful track record of music education teaching at the university level along with the ability to determine program effectiveness through student assessment is required. The candidate must have extensive experience with all levels (elementary through high school) of public school music programs, and demonstrated abilities in recruiting and retaining undergraduate students. The candidate should possess superior administrative and organization skills. The candidate must show evidence of an ongoing commitment to advancing the profession as reflected in a substantial music education research agenda, including a promising record of publications. Evidence of commitment to teaching, mentoring, and service to underrepresented populations is desirable including research in, and engagement with, underrepresented populations.
