Title:  Instrumental Music Teacher, Secondary 2020-21 School Year

Salary Schedule Range:   Depends on Experience (Highest placement would be at Class III, Step 11 of the Teacher Salary Schedule– available online in the Human Resources section of District website) Annual stipends for a Master’s and Doctorate degrees.

Purpose of Position: Teach all levels of music to junior high and/or high school age students.

Essential Functions:

  • Teach woodwinds, brass, percussion, and strings. Classes include concert band, orchestra, marching band, drum line, and jazz band. Classes at the high school level may include Color Guard/Winter Guard.
  • Ability to demonstrate fundamental knowledge (may consider saying something about more advanced techniques as well and technical ability on all woodwind, brass, percussion, and string instruments.
  • Ability to perform minor repairs on instruments and tune string instruments.
  • Design intermediate and advanced instrumental lesson plans in alignment with district curriculum and Common Core State Standards, which also address student acquisition of music skills and differentiation for EL students and students with special needs.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in marching band drill writing and performance.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.

Required Qualifications:

  • Possession of a valid California Single Subject credential with authorization to teach Music and a Bilingual Cross-Cultural Language and Academic Development (CLAD or BCLAD) credential, or equivalent. Authorization to teach additional subject areas preferred.
  • If not fully credentialed, candidate must be willing to enroll in credential program and have at least 18 semester units in the subject area to qualify for a short term staff permit; or must be enrolled in a credential program and be eligible for an internship credential.
  • Fluent and literate in English and Spanish highly desirable.
