National Board Certification: $5,000 per year
180-day contract/ benefits (administered by the SEBB) and retirement

About our
The Mount Vernon School District is in the growing city of Mount Vernon (population 35,000) and located 60 miles north of Seattle off the I-5 corridor in Washington State. Music instruction is offered to students in grades K-12 and is a valued art for all our students. Our award winning fine and performing arts programs of choirs, orchestras, jazz, marching and mariachi bands compete and perform at the local, regional and national level.

About the Position and School
This a full-time, continuing position available January 2021 at Madison School. Madison is a 50:50, K-5 dual language school. All students receive daily instruction in Spanish and English. Madison recognizes that all students are language learners and prioritizes the Spanish language in communication to families and students. Anyone who walks into Madison is respected, valued and supported. The music program has been instructed primarily in Spanish for over 5 years. The goal of the music program is to combine culture and music instruction to instill a passion for this art.

Successful candidates should:

  • Hold a valid Washington State Teaching Certificate with endorsement in music
  • Have majored in Music Education with an emphasis in elementary general music
  • Ability to instruct students in elementary school band
  • Have experience and training in the following areas: Keyboard proficiency; Orff; Kodaly; Children’s Voices; Computer Skills; Music Technology, Composition; Instrumental Pedagogy; Vocal Music; and Musical Theater
  • Instruct music with an equity and multicultural lens to support the dual language, Spanish/English, mission and vision of Madison School
  • Be bilingual (English/Spanish) and be able to fluently speak, read and write in Spanish
