“The CMEA/CMEF Future Leadership Scholarship will provide support to Tri-M and Collegiate Chapter students to attend and participate in the many aspects of Professional Development and Organizational work that are offered at the local, state, divisional and national levels.”
The primary goal is in response to what we have heard from our Tri-M and Collegiate Chapter students over the past two years: and that is the ability to join with the membership is difficult if not impossible for many. Therefore, the primary goal for the Future Leaders Scholarship will be:
“To provide travel and hotel stipends, for attendance at CASMEC, Stand Up 4 Music Advocacy events, Western Division Leadership Seminar in Las Vegas, and the NAfME Collegiate Summit/Hill Day/National Assembly in Washington D.C. among others.”
We feel strongly that bringing as many future leaders as possible to these events is the best way to instill a sense of Service Leadership as part of their professional career. The networking the can make will be invaluable to them, and to us. The increased numbers of Collegiates at CASMEC over the past few years has brought a new and exciting vibe to our annual conference.
What will we ask of them in return? Participation at the highest levels possible which will include not only their attendance, but working with presenters to facilitate events, leading workshops designed for their peers, and having a true sense of belonging to CMEA long before they start their careers in music education.
