CMEA State Virtual Solo & Small Ensemble Festival
The CMEA State Virtual Solo Festival is open to California music students, elementary-high school who have received a superior rating at another non-state level* music festival during the 2020-2021 or the 2021-2022 school years.
*This does not include superior ratings at the previous years’ state-level festival, but does include the CMEA Virtual Spring Music Festivals in 2021 and 2022.
Description:
- Festival open to any school solo or small ensemble, regardless of instrumentation: band, choir, orchestra, jazz, rock/pop band, mariachi, steel drum, ukulele, guitar, hand bells or any instrument or vocal ensemble.
- Recordings of in-person performances, non-virtual, not digitally enhanced.
- Any/all styles of music are welcome.
- Director must be an active CMEA/NAfME member.
Dates and Submission Details:
- Registration closes on May 8, 2022.
- The video submission deadline is May 13, 2022.
- Once registration closes, everyone will be sent specific information for submitting your performance video and music.
- Performances will be evaluated by an adjudicator between May 16-31, 2022.
- Results will be communicated to participants by June 7, 2022.
Registration Fees:
$50 – Solo Registration
$100 – Small Chamber Ensemble (includes Duets, Trios, etc)
Registration fees are non-refundable after April 25, 2022.

- One entry per form.
- Electronic payment required. Contact CMEA, cmea@calmusiced.com, if electronic payment is absolutely not an option.
Festival and Video Submission Guidelines
- GoReact will be used for the submissions and evaluations.
- Registered participants will be sent specific information and a link for submitting your performance video and sheet music between May 7-13.
- The video recording needs to be in a single recording; no editing.
- All video formats are accepted.
- Each entrant should perform a minimum of one piece of music (or improvisation).
- Videos should not exceed 10 minutes in length but there is no minimum length!
- You may perform your piece, as a solo, with or without piano accompaniment
- Introduction: At the start of the video recording, please state your first name and age, only, as well as the title of the piece you are performing.
- Due to copyright laws, you are required to show your purchased music at the beginning of your video, prior to your introduction and performance.
- Each entry will receive feedback from one of the expert adjudicators via GoReact, regarding your performance.
- We will only share your recording with the assigned expert adjudicator.
- Your personal contact information will not be shared with anyone.
- At the end of the festival, your video and music will be deleted from the server.
- All feedback will be provided electronically
- Solos and Small Chamber Ensembles will receive a rating, if requested.
- Medals will be available for sale online after the festival closes.

2022 CMEA Virtual Spring Music Festival
2022 CMEA Virtual Spring Music Festival
Register is now closed for this event.
A festival designed for teachers and students whose schools have travel restrictions. A performance critique opportunity for any and all music performance ensembles and solos.
- Festival open to any school solo or ensemble, regardless of size or instrumentation: band, choir, orchestra, jazz, rock/pop band, mariachi, steel drum, ukulele, guitar, hand bells or any instrument or vocal ensemble. All are welcome!
- Recordings of in-person performances, non-virtual, not digitally enhanced.
- Any/all styles of music are welcome.
- Multi-tracking and/or using electronic accompaniments are allowed.
- All ensemble entries will receive judge’s comments from highly qualified judges with expertise in the category of your submission. Comments only, no ratings.
- Large ensemble entries only will also be provided an opportunity to have their adjudicator provide a zoom clinic with their classroom in late April.
- Solos and Small Chamber Ensembles only will be provided comments and a rating, if desired. Students performing solos who receive a superior rating, will be invited to participate in the CMEA State Virtual Solo Festival taking place in May of 2022.
- Entries need to be audio/video submissions, not audio only.
- Because of the nature of submitting videos, a media release form will need to be signed by each parent/guardian and collected by the director. We will provide the media release form once you are registered.
- Director must be a current CMEA/NAfME member.

Performances will be evaluated by an adjudicator between April 8-22, 2022. Results will be communicated to participants by April 25, 2022. Large ensemble zoom clinics scheduled between April 25-29, 2022.
