Lompoc Unified School District

Elementary Music Education

The Lompoc Unified School District offers an outstanding educational program for its approximately 9,100 students. Quality leadership, teaching and support staff are just some of the reasons. The District serves TK-12th grade students living in the City of Lompoc, Vandenberg Village, Mesa Oaks, Mission Hills, Vandenberg Space Force Base and rural areas adjacent to these communities. The District offers a wide range of programs for students with special needs. Specialists at all levels provide support for bilingual students, migrant students, gifted, and special needs students. The Administration has worked diligently to create an atmosphere of cooperation and collaboration at all levels. Collaborative negotiations and proactive problem solving have become institutionalized.

The Lompoc community is located 150 miles northwest of Los Angeles in Santa Barbara County. Its population is approximately 40,000 and the area is known for its mild, smog-free climate. The average maximum temperature is 73 degrees and the average winter high temperature is 63 degrees. Lompoc is the support city for Vandenberg Space Force Base, the aerospace center of the West Coast. Lompoc is also known as the flower seed capital of the world, as it produces more than half of the world’s supply of flower seeds. Lompoc Unified is looking for an additional six Elementary Art teachers as the District is focusing on equitable arts education starting in Kindergarten through all of the elementary grades to better prepare students for a robust electives program in secondary. The positions will be structured so that two elementary sites share one theatre and one music teacher, all students getting one semester of each discipline weekly.

Collaboration around standards based instruction will happen among the four music and the four theater teachers, with some direction and collaboration from the district Arts Council.  The expectation is students at all elementary campuses will have equitable instruction.
